IVF Is Not a Promise of Pregnancy… But There Is Always Hope!
Many people start the IVF journey thinking it’s a magical solution, and that “pregnancy must happen.” But the truth every woman needs to know is this: IVF is not a promise of pregnancy; it is just one of many methods we use. The outcome is always in the unknown, in God’s hands.
Let me share this story, which happened with one of Dr. Riham El Shal’s patients, Specialist in Obstetrics, Gynecology, IVF, and Infertility.
Five years of waiting.
Since 2021, she had been trying for five years with delayed pregnancy. One of her fallopian tubes was completely blocked, and the other was partially functional. Her ovaries responded very weakly to stimulation. She had severe ovarian cysts, and we were cautious about ovarian hyperstimulation. We continued carefully until it was time for IVF.
We started and froze embryos.
God blessed us in the first attempt, and we produced eight excellent embryos. We split them into two groups of four and decided to start with one group. We transferred the first four embryos and waited for the test… the result was negative. No pregnancy.
The first shock.
Like any hopeful mother, the disappointment was huge, especially since everyone around her said: “Next time, you will definitely get pregnant.”
We transferred the second group of four embryos. She had great hope and felt all the pregnancy symptoms… but again, the result was negative. No pregnancy.

Did she come back? Yes, and to the same doctor!
Despite the disappointment, she came back after a year and said, “I trust you, and I will try again.” The decision was surprising, but honestly, sometimes the patient’s trust is a great motivator.
But before starting IVF again from scratch, we decided to try something simple.
We said: Let’s give a mild stimulation cycle and monitor ovulation on the healthy ovary, without pressure, waiting, or planning anything complicated. Just a natural chance.
And the surprise…
After two weeks, we did a pregnancy test… and the result was positive!
Pregnancy happened naturally despite all the previous medical issues. No IVF, no surgeries, no catheters. Just mild stimulation and God’s grace.
And the biggest surprise? It was not a normal pregnancy… it was a twin pregnancy!
God compensated her after six years of patience.
The joy was immense, not just because she got pregnant, but because she conceived at a time she had forgotten everything. She wasn’t even expecting it, was living her life normally — traveling, going out, celebrating — and then she found out she was pregnant with twins.
SubhanAllah, as if God chose the right time for her, when she was truly ready in every way.
In the end…
IVF is not a promise of pregnancy. It is just a method. Many cases fail with IVF, but God blesses them with a natural pregnancy. Not because they tried harder than they could, but because they surrendered to God’s timing and cared about the simplest things — follow-up, mild stimulation, and psychological support.
A final message to everyone reading now: If you went through a difficult experience or felt hopeless, know that there is a time reserved for you… God wrote it long ago.
